The police in the UK wear stab proof vest and carry baton since guns are controlled in the UK. Another way to disarm the boy would have been swinging a baton against his arm instead of using the Taser on his whole body; it’s a judgment call.

Officers are trained in baton use keeping the opponents at baton reach by swing; it's very doubtful with an adult's arm length plus the length of the extend baton that a child would reach. 2.) the electrical shock effects the body's bio-electrical system and could cause damage, not for a few seconds; people have died. 3.) there were at least 4 or 5 other officers as backup.

@tomosa6880 There were at least 4 to 5 officers around him, yet only one of them approached him. They could have circled him with their batons drawn. The boy was holding the knife handle and it would have been hard to throw with his small arm.

@Val-M. The kid was 11 years old. In your story it was a teenager, big difference; pass puberty high on drugs.
