You can really tell the difference between a Western military airfield and a Russian. In the West the airfield ramp where the jets are parked has a sterile environment with no unnecessary equipment not needed for flight operations in the area. The Russian ramp has wooden crates, metal boxes, and seems to be a storage area. The Russians doesn’t have motorized munitions mounting equipment and just uses manpower to mount the weapons. They also seem to use older civilian contractors, instead of young enlisted personnel to mount the weapons.

@xavierg8985 GPS satellites use the same radio frequencies but have different codes for communication while GLONASS satellites have the same codes but use different frequencies, allowing satellites on the same orbital plane to communicate. The different codes for the GPS are simpler and easier to place the database for the codes in the GPS receiver using the same radio frequency to tell the different satellites in a handheld unit for civilian use. Since the GLONASS uses different frequencies it would be harder to jam all of the different frequencies, while this makes the receiver more complicated having to scan different frequencies and proven to have breakdowns. If the Ukrainians were jamming the GLONASS frequencies, Putin would have been up in arms and retaliating firing missiles.

@BOPOH_Sml Then why did Russian Su-34 pilots mount it on their instrument panel and used it to navigate?

@BOPOH_Sml It would have been easier to go to a Ukrainian outdoor sports store and steal some handheld GPS units and have Russian soldiers plot the jamming ground coverage from their Russian jamming units since the jamming blockage is limited in coverage range. And the Ukrainians at the time didn't have GPS smart weapons; they may now have them. And Western weapons have a seek on GPS jamming units in the field to take them out. It would be crazy to have Su-34 flying circles around a Russian GPS jamming unit to test the jamming range over Ukrainian airspace, only to get shot down.

@eastcoastsailingcenter7768 The Russian mentality is still based on WW2 and flying from dirt runways for their fighter jets. The Russian fighters have louvered air intakes on top to be opened for takeoff and landings for Foreign Object Debris (FOD). The US A-10 “Warthog” has its engines mount high for dirt runways to prevent FOD.
