It’s putting all your capital into a single enterprise without any kind of diversity if a new technology became available. It would be like what happened to Brazil in the 19th century with the rubber plantations. With the development of the automobile, the demand for rubber skyrocketed. The rubber trees were plentiful in the Amazon jungle and made instant millionaires. When synthetic rubber was developed the market crashed. The rubber plantations couldn’t diversify to produce another profitable crop. The Amazon jungle would be like the North African desert, it would be hard to diversify since both are inhospitable to large amount of humans in the harsh climate.
