Fifty years ago the Israelis built the “Bar Lev Line” a set of fortification and a huge sand hill along the Suez Canal and put lookout posts to give them early warning of the Egyptians massing along the border. They thought that it would take the Egyptians days, if not weeks to penetrate the huge sand hill, giving them time. The Egyptians used high-pressure fire hose to liquefy the sand in a couple of hours and poured through. The Israelis used high-tech surveillance monitors to monitor miles of fence line along the Gaza Strip; they thought they would see Hamas massing along the fence line and would have time to react. Hamas used drones to drop grenades on top of the towers with the high-tech monitors and used construction equipment to destroy the fence; ATVs drove through the break and they flew powered gilders over the fence. Failure is often do to hubris, thinking the enemy isn’t going to adapt their tactics to the changing times.
