Most of the unexploded munitions removed appear to be tank ammunition. The Russian âTâ series tanks, 72s, 80s, and 90s have autoloaders and only three crewmen; this gives the Russian tanks a low silhouette. One of the drawback is the tank ammo is stored in the crew compartment, unlike Western tanks with separate ammo compartment with a blowout panel to protect the tank crew. The Iraqis learn the hard way during Desert Storm when their Russian T-72s tank turret blew up and throwing some unexploded munitions around the tank in the desert after being hit by Western tank fire. The Russians appear to fix the problem with their new A-14 Armada tank, which they only have built it in very small numbers because of the cost per tank. The Russians have a habit of using their old outdated equipment no matter what, since they built a foolish amount of them to stockpile and only cared about total numbers and not quality and not crew survival.
