A £14 million super yacht sank taking on water during a waterspout. The super yacht must have been anchored with two anchors, one at the bow and one at the stern. Modern super yachts are built for pleasure and not for rough sea. With a bow and stern anchor, the yacht couldn’t swing away from the wind and like most pleasure yachts she has a low stern with sliding glass doors allowing the waves to enter the cabin.

@donatass.4699 I was wrong about capsizing due to a two-point anchor. The captain of the Bayesian, James Cutfield 51, told Italian police that he wasn’t monitoring the weather closely and the ship’s retractable keel was raised, even with an anchor depth of 160 feet. Lowering the retractable keel would have added stability and made it harder to capsize.

In the picture just before she sank, it shows an older sailing ship anchored very close by, yet the super yacht sank, and the old wooden sailboat didn’t. The super yacht was over valued on how safe it was in rough weather.

@novola1972 The captain of the old sailboat anchored next to the modern Bayesian monitored the bad weather and started her engine to keep the old sailboat’s nose into the wind at anchor to keep from being rolled over in a quick wind shift. It took the Bayesian to capsize at anchor in less than 5 minutes by what the old sailboat's captain anchored next to her said.
