Carbon fiber failure mode is cracking like an egg shell and splitting of the fibers; metal will deform, bend and crumple. To monitor for carbon fiber failure, the designers installed sound monitors to detect cracking sound and hopefully allowing the pilot of the submersible to surface.

The Russian conscript soldiers serve for one year; roughly six months training and six months serving as regular infantry or logistic supply occupation. The one year duration precludes the conscripts from going to specialized schools for advance military training and has to serve as infantry or in logistic supply. The current Russian conscript soldiers on their last six months of active duty will be held past their discharge date and former conscript soldiers integrated into civilian life will be called up to replenish their troops lost in battle. It is turning into a battle of attrition.
