Western countries using weapon systems developed jointly or bought from other western countries must have the permission to re-export the weapon systems to another country. The F-16 has been in production almost for fifty years and is in the air force inventory of more than two dozen countries. If the US agrees to given them to Ukraine the other two dozen countries with multiple squadrons of F-16 would have the “Green Light” to give some of their F-16s to Ukraine which could be in the hundreds. The former Eastern Block countries that are now part of NATO have very few Soviet era fighters left to give to Ukraine.

@user-yp9nz6bs9q Former Vice Air Marshal Stringer said when the F-16 is combined with the capacity of fueling, surveillance, and electronics warfare it can obtain air superiority. The Russians have these but have not obtain air superiority against a much smaller force.
