China uses hypergolic fluids that spontaneously and violently react when they make contact without the need for a heavy ignition system in their booster rockets. The West using less dangerous rocket propellant fuel in their booster rockets requiring an ignition system. The West uses these fluids in minor amounts for space propulsion thrusters, but not in the main rocket boosters; these hypergolic fluids are highly toxic and lethal to living organisms and the environment.
