When driving on sand you must " Deflate " your tires to about 15 lbs instead of the normal 35 lbs . This will let your tires act like a Camels foot and float up on the sand ...otherwise you Hard " Full " tires will just sink into the sand.

The metal up front on that bumper might be a Safety feature as a " Crumple Zone " .... When you get hit on the front like that the frame and metal is made specifically to crumple and fold to absorb the impact . Impact zones on cars are a feature from the 1970's . SO maybe the metal there is intentionally Flexible . but the major frame should be very hard
