It usually takes 5 years to get decent at HVAC . Get with a Company , Go thru a Union apprenticeship and get piaid while you learn for the Larger equipment , Chillers, Cooling Towers , VFD drives , motors , pumps . and when you graduate you get Union wages . Look into building maintenance , Look into Resorts , Casinos, State and local government jobs pay good and have great benefits for HVAC techs . Prisons , Government buildings , Large Apartment complexes . With HVAC you learn plumbing and electrical and that gives you a lot of options as you progress in the Trade . I did water heater replacments on the side and made great money and its easy work . The more you learn the more the money is good , and you will find a good place . Look into Building controls and automation which is a big and growing part of HVAC . Good uck
