  5. ​ @timcross2510 Yeah McGovern would have gotten us out sooner but it would have looked like Biden's withdrawal from Afghanistan probably. Although it wasn't pretty in the way it happened then either. In the long run Nixon policy was probably the best option for US domestic politics.

I was very young but I remember supporters of both parties having arguments and disagreements but they were civil to each other overall especially among the older generation. Supporters of both parties had been through the experience mostly of World War 2 and somewhat the Korean War being a disappointing stalemate along with the building of the Berlin wall and because of those shared experiences they had some respect for each other in spite of differences of opinion.
