Well I guess it doesn't have just one answer but probably many. But on a psychological level it is their mental problem in their mind and not yours. Or to put it another way that might be clearer they are the ones who are screwed up in the head not you. They are the one who are ruled by fear, hatred, and entitled arrogance not you. It's best to at least try to put on a front that you're not going to let them get to you or bother you and play their game. You don't have to be violent or confrontational you can just not pay them any attention and go about your Merry way. As long as you let them bother you and show it they have control over you which is what they want. So don't give it to them. Prove it to yourself and to any uninvolved outside Observer that you are better than that or them.
