  1. Ideally I think the ideal solution would be for the Ukraine a free but neutral country like Switzerland. The Ukraine asked to join NATO because they feared Putin. As far as the parts of the Ukraine are predominantly dominated by russian-speaking people I guess the ideal solution would be to have some kind of referendum or plebiscite and let the population vote for which country they want to belong to. All the Old Warsaw Pact countries joined NATO because they feared Russia. They weren't coerced to do so but did so because they feared Russia and especially Putin later on. If there was a way that Russia could guarantee that the Ukraine could remain free to choose its own destiny without fear of reprisal from Russia then the best solution would be for the Ukraine to remain a neutral but free country. One would think that once the ukrainians about safe and secure that naturally they would would have strong economic and cultural ties with Russia. Putin is bringing a lot of this upon himself through his paranoia and his nationalistic zeal to totally dominate in all aspects the former Soviet republics. Deep down inside he appears to want to revive the old former Soviet Union. I may be wrong but that's what it looks like to me. Most of these old former Soviet republics want no part of that.

  3.  @aminathnazma3772  seriously? I understand Russia's fears but these new NATO countries wanted to join NATO because they feared Russia especially Putin. We really don't have any desire to be at odds with Russia just for the hell of it. At one time we were allies against Nazi Germany. Before the Bolshevik Revolution America had hardly any contact with Russia whatsoever. We were never traditional enemies until then.
