@jont2576 that very well may be, but then they would be turning areas in Taiwan totally useless because they would be a radioactive Wasteland. China would be destroying the very assets that they crave. What would be the point in that? It makes no sense whatsoever.

@lvjinbin28 well part of the reason why the US didn't bomb Beijing during the Korean War they didn't want to invite Russia in on the war too. I have no idea why Russia didn't bomb Beijing during the Sino Soviet War. There's no denying that China's land forces would be formidable just by sheer numbers. That's why general Douglas MacArthur said don't get involved in a land war in Asia. I think he was thinking about too many people in a vast expanse of land. However, if China invaded Taiwan they would have to pull troops from the Himalayan region which would leave them vulnerable to India wanting to grab some territory back. China could face a two front War.

@katrinoy1 not necessarily. The South Vietnamese really didn't have the will to fight that war. I believe Taiwan does and would be highly motivated to defend their Homeland. Even people who are not exactly happy with the government there would still fight for their Homeland.

@jont2576 you might find yourself surprised by that. From what I gather the Taiwanese have the attitude better dead than red.

@RAMMAN16 yeah I imagine Taiwan might be interested in blowing up the Three Rivers Dam in China. That would be a major catastrophe!

@jont2576 valid point but who wants to take over China? The point is trying to keep China from taking over Taiwan by force of Arms. If China wants to take over Taiwan then they should do it by peaceful means by making joining China a too good of an offer to refuse. However to do that, China would have to adapt more rights for the individual. Such as freedom of speech, press, the right of public assembly, freedom of belief weather religious or not, freedom to choose the candidate of their choice and not just one force-fed by a one party system, the right to defend themselves from oppression and arbitrary laws, and others such as old people should be treated fairly and equally in respect of their rights. I would imagine if China adapted this policy Taiwan would willingly join China. Otherwise China can expect a fight on their hands by a determined and highly motivated foe.

@RAMMAN16 I think you would be surprised by their response. I think they would. From what I gather they have the attitude better dead than red.
