  6. If russia really has learned their lesson, it was the same lesson we had to learn in Vietnam. We tried to prop up some dictators against the will of the general population. Some of their rationalizations were similar to what we were being told during the L.B. Johnson administration. It eventually cost him his job. He ended up refusing to run again. Backing unpopular authoritarian dictators is never a good idea. It is a waste of time, money, men, and energy. Eventually the will of the people will prevail.
