  1. China's always been ruled for the most part by emperors and have a strong authoritarian history. However these emperors were supposed to follow the Mandate of Heaven and be righteous. It seems that the Chinese value Law and Order and social stability more than they do individual rights and freedoms. I know this is a generalization but I think it's generally true overall. I am fully aware that all the rules have their exceptions.

  2.  @xielens  you have a point there with some organized religions. Some can be very authoritarian and intolerant. I guess it depends on the religion and what their values are. Thank goodness we don't burn witches anymore or torture people who have a different viewpoint of what the religion means.
