With regard to the pod thing. Most rich people and governments have ties to black rock and other firms like it. These firms intentionally buy up property everywhere in order to prevent families from buying them, in order to make them rent from them. Like I remember a news story about how black rock was buy houses like 100% over asking price by paying 5 or 6 hundred thousand instead of 2 or 3 hundred thousand.
