Beyond the moral questions of saving millions of lives from starvation and disease, the US learned a lesson from WW2, namely if we don’t support world peace in whatever form, military or basic aid, we will eventually face another conflict. Ignoring German poverty after WW1 caused WW2. Our defense budget is astronomically higher, but it helped free Eastern Europe from the USSR.

We still have nuclear armed enemies who will gladly fill the void we leave. 70 years hasn’t changed Russian dictatorship, which Reagan helped defeat once. As for taxes, We could reduce taxes for average Americans but the GOP policies are aimed at lowering corporate and wealthy tax payers. I’m highly skeptical that this president will lower prices for middle America.
