That’s especially true of economics. If you look around you’ll find that mixed economy has multiple definitions, just like capitalism. To claim yours as the truth is just simplistic. I am not anti-capitalist, I believe that’s a naive position, but neither am I anti-socialist for the same reason. And capitalism doesn’t need a moral case; we know from history it works, it just needs fine tuning. How much tuning is the real argument.

An ex-Nazi built our space program, the Chinese built much of our first railroads, we have remnants of indigenous culture across the country, American music, a global phenomenon, is derived mainly from slavery, scientists have fled persecution worldwide and made us stronger for it.

Then why is it that when a "social program" is suggested (say Obamacare), the GOP starts screaming 'socialism', or even more egregious is Trump calling Harris a communist. You want it both ways. I agree that the only difference in world economies is how much they tax and regulate, but the SEC, the FDIC, the FDA et cetera aren't part of the 'free market'.

And you didn’t refute my argument that conservatives label everything ‘socialist’ they don’t like. I’m a realist; we need both to make a prosperous society run. The Black Panthers, Nation of Islam were never a real threat to either our democracy or our police force. South Korea is not armed against the S Korean government, but against the North's insane dictatorship. Neither Vietnam or Afghanistan were modern, functioning democracies. You didn't mention Israel, where armed citizens are a real thing, but they're surrounded by fanatic Muslims, not trying to fight their own government. Your WW2 analogies about the Swiss, the Resistance doesn't apply to America. We're not trying to fend off a Hitler from Canada or Mexico. I believe that this part of the reasoning for the 2nd is fantasy and the price we are paying for it-American gun deaths-is far too high.
