@starfoxnes None of your examples, which you have laid out very well, proves that a 'modern' democracy has been saved by armed citizens from its own government.
The Black Panthers, Nation of Islam were never a real threat to either our democracy or our police force. South Korea is not armed against the S Korean government, but against the North's insane dictatorship. Neither Vietnam or Afghanistan were modern, functioning democracies. You didn't mention Israel, where armed citizens are a real thing, but they're surrounded by fanatic Muslims, not trying to fight their own government.
Your WW2 analogies about the Swiss, the Resistance doesn't apply to America. We're not trying to fend off a Hitler from Canada or Mexico.
I believe that this part of the reasoning for the 2nd is fantasy and the price we are paying for it-American gun deaths-is far too high.
FYI, I grew up on a farm hunting, shooting up shit and loving it, but I believe the price is too high and the danger of tyranny in America too low. But hey, we can agree to disagree.
