As a former mental health patient, I would agree with this assessment with the caveat that practitioners offering Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, COG, are offering what is practiced in most mental health hospitals. In my experience, COG therapy is effective because unlike talk therapy it requires the patient to change, in measured fashion, their dysfunctional habits. In psych hospitals it is usually recommended along with antidepressant meds. And in my, now 40 experience with depression, it works.
