Like RFK jr he seems not to understand that every president since WW2 has used a policy of containment to degrade our superpower enemies. That’s how the USSR imploded and freed Eastern Europe, that’s how we guarantee democracy and economic freedom in Japan, Taiwan and S Korea. Trump is right to push for more European NATO funding, but caving to Putin is inviting a bigger war.

  39. Hanson, who knows better, trying to give Trumpists cover when Trump volunteered to abandon Europe to Russia. The US has a long history beginning in WW2 of trying to degrade Russian power. This helped lead to the fall of the Iron Curtain and the freeing of Eastern Europe. That happened under Reagan and has been our policy ever since it became clear that a dictatorship in Russia was a threat to world peace. There is no excuse for bailing on Ukraine, who have demonstrated what a failed superpower Russia is. We want to degrade Putin’s regime, and contrary to simple minds, abandoning our 70 year policy of pressuring Russia is more likely to cause WW3, than prevent it. Trump and his enablers are witless about geopolitics and menacing the fragile system we have in place.

Even if Russia occupies Ukraine (and they will need to leave troops), it will be a victory for the West.
