  1. I'm in the U.S., and I too have to respond to emergencies, but I am compensated for the time I'm waiting for a phone call. It's not at my regular rate, but a portion of it because I can't do anything else when I'm "on-call", in the event I'm called to handle something. I'm not at their beck and call for free.
