  1. Calling him an "American" merely because he was born in a US state seems hollow to me. He is uncomfortable in the US. His culture and belief system isn't American, it's Japanese. He's American born, but in my opinion he's actually Japanese, as one's nationality is the amalgamation of all the ideas one holds, not merely where one was born. That is to say he's an American citizen not necessarily an American.
