Just a thought, maybe that knob at the bottom with the weird recurve bit is actually so you can hold the gun by the knob and then fire it with your index finger with that recurve bit as the trigger? It'd be good for shooting around a corner I guess, which seems bad? Might explain why people don't bother, but it's worth noting someone could also carry a mirror and use it to site their gun? It'd be risky for the mirror, but that'd be a risk a soldier would take I'd wager?

  2. This does seem more practical than most of the gun-knives I've seen, but I still wonder how often a shot will ricochet off the blade. Seems like the perfect tool for a fiction writer, lots of silly things you can do with gun hybrids.

  4. This is one of, if not the most bizarre weapons I have ever seen, but it is certainly marvelous in it's own way. On the upside, if you get hit by 10 small bullets at this grouping you're probably staggeringly dead. In all serious though, how stoned was the guy who designed this thing?

  5. That is a beautiful weapon, and I feel like you could even use firing that gun at an easy target as a test of strength, where it's not about hitting the target, but about not being smucked in the face with the gun!

That would have been a pretty serious advantage, even with all the accompanying hassles, perfect when you're always out numbered... the only real drawback to guns of that era compared to competing options (such as they were) was the rate of fire, imagine if you've got a company of say 20 men, all good shots (you don't give expensive gear like this to your noobs), all armed with these? Even an angry mob will take notice when over a hundred men fall dead in the blink of an eye. These must have been pretty intimidating!
