Problem is about 30-40 percent of the population are dumbass left and see socialism as a magic wand that can fix everything overnight. You mention Venezuela to them and they either say it's western propaganda, or thats not real socialism.

I think Styx would have made a good high school teacher. The type that inspires some students. But he would have been less happy and perhaps had a smaller outreach.

The Turkish army was also a bulwark of Ataturk's secular legacy but after the failed coup it's been purged and replaced with Erdogan loyalists who are also islamic conservatives. A shame.

As opposed to a savage garden :)

Made me laugh at the end!

Actually you're wrong on Chile Styx. The socialists and Bachelet lost the last election and centre right Sebastian Piñera is president now.

Somebody gift Styx some stabilizers for a bike! :)

The number one enemy against economic progress is war.

That's why i have always advocated for birth control. I don't want to use compulsion but a series of incentives and encouragements would encourage people, especially poorer people in the most unproductive areas to have less kids. With a smaller population we perhaps wouldnt have had to give up our first world. And would have been able to live in a sustainable world that gives renewable resources a chance to regenerate.

Styx actually touched on an idea I had had previously the other day. About live streaming politicians and high end bureacrats as they work to ensure they dont engage in shady business. With perhaps certain exceptions at a national security level or some kind of secret room that they have to book and that remains on record. Where they can discuss matters without being filmed. Otherwise i would have them wear a go-pro once they clock in at work, that live streams to a site that any citizen can access. This could make for social programs to be less prone to corruption. Sometimes welfare is needed, i don't want people to become homeless and see a shift to third-world like conditions. But welfare for work should be the key and some of the projects would be geared towards generating money that goes towards funding the very same projects and i'm sure there could be a way to strike a mutually beneficial partnership with the private sector and local businesses in particular. An example is indoor vertical farming that could then produce cheap products for local markets and restaurants. This could generate money to pay for the program. Otherwise it could also handle things like cleaning grafitti. Sweeping the streets. Removing rubbish dumped in local rivers etc. These workers for welfare would only work 30 hrs a week so that they can still have time to look for a proper job and also to not over exploit them as they are essentially paid what they require for very basic needs only. The goal is to get them into regular work and this gives them an opportunity to get good references.

Yeah, guess so.

A higher tax on the most powerful corporations (a significant part of the globalists) would not hurt working class and small to medium size american businesses. Nor add to their tax burdens. The reasons Venezuela failed is that 1) Their revolutionary flavoured brand of socialism (i.e. worker councils, neighbourhood justice commitees), politicised bureacracy, is toxic to investors and for fostering a healthy capitalist society or a civil society that values the rule of law. 2) They made enemies of big oil and that brings a lot of problems, they will set out to undermine you. 3) They made enemies of the globalist banking who will immediately set about going after your currency value. That combined with their revolutionary flavoured socialism which would have hurt the currency anyway, means it's economy will never get good. 4) Dictatorial level presidential power combined with a low IQ jackass like Maduro as president who is not able to acknowledge reality or think outside the box. The situation with Bernie Sanders is very different. We would remain a civil society that values the rule of law. As we see in Scandinavian countries. If Venezuela didn't make such powerful enemies it would still be having chronic economic problems and inefficiencies, but the oil revenues would for the most part, patch these inefficiencies up. It wouldn't be as such a critical level as we see now.

I'm planning something similar but i want to make some concrete or wooden 'troughs' similar to what animals drink from but fill them with bad soil in the bottom and good soil in the middle and upper part. Thin sheets can cover it to protect from frost or excessive sun and rain and i dont have to bend down so much to pick the produce out.

There have been some good comedians in UK in more recent times. For the most part they are pretty tame, but check out Peep Show if you ever get the chance. An excellent satirical look at British life for younger people in the early 21st century. You might also like League of Gentlemen, Styx. But regardless, it's disgusting what's happened to Dankula/Mark Meecham. The Tony Blair years left a very cultural left wing establishment entrenched in Britain. Which the conservatives have for the most part ignored and let be.

You should draw a grid map of your garden and plots as a reference Styx.

More nationally focused capitalism is better. We can't escape the needs for global trade, but the focus and emphasis of every nation should be on their own people first. This is why as a left leaning person I'm not anti Trump as he kind of believes this too.

It's in Trumps interests that Biden gets nominated.

At an economic level it's fine. At a geo-political miltarist level its a bad thing. We saw what happened when Bush jr destablised the world in early 00's. A decade of promise became a shit one.

Why do people single out Qatar as the worst of the arab royal families? I'm sure they've got some shady dealings but it can be any worse than house of Saud can it?

Im a Bernie fan. I love ya Styx never insulted you. But Americans deserve universal health care. Every other first world country has it.
