This isn't a problem. Less people will be easier to provide for in the long term. There's a very real possibility that a new cold war will arise between the west and China and the sanctions could cause a crisis. Meeting the needs of over a billion people in such circumstances could be a nightmare, combined with the effects of disenfranchised people after automation kicks in, and environmental issues this century there could be some real tough times ahead. But a smaller population will alleviate all this. We can't keep having new generations be bigger than the last, in order cover pensions. We have to come up with alternative ways to help people in old age, otherwise we sign up to a pyramid scheme because we can't have the newer generation bigger than the last, be a thing that goes on forever. It's not even possible in a finite world. If we have a smaller new generation it will mean that by the time they come of pension age, it will be reasonably easy to provide for them.
