  1. The pro russian rebels would have nothing to gain from shooting down such a plane. And would have everything to lose. The backlash would allow the ukrainian military to go in maximum force and bring the war to a swift close. For the moment the Ukraines advance vs the seperatists has had to have restraint so to not become another Georgia 2008. But something like this would give them the moral high ground even if they go in heavy handed.
