Immigration and population growth just pushes back the problems to another day. Otherwise you are forever trapped in this pensions trap where the next generation has to be bigger than the previous one or else the pensions will have a crisis. Eventually it will reach a limit and break just like with pyramid schemes, it is very similar to a pyramid scheme.

They just need to stick up for themselves more. Unionize, and I don't mean anything too radical that wants to turn the business world on its head. But just Unions that strive for a better balance so people can live more dignified work/life balance.

It'll be fine, Japan is actually going to be safe from the issues most other countries developed countries will face. In other countries, the increasing population amid an uncertain and shaky economic future will see growth of slums, mass unemployment, rising crime, higher cost to do business, political extremism on the left and the right. And a decline, possible collapse in social services like healthcare and pensions that people used to take for granted. Yet their GDPs will remain fairly high and their populations will keep getting bigger. While japan will see population and the GDP decrease but the per capita wealth will remain fairly high because a.i. and automation will fill a lot of jobs and law and order and general standards of living will be much better off than in other developed countries such as Britain or western europe. Capitalists will prefer to invest in a 'safe' country where they dont have to pay exorbitant insurance costs due to the high amounts of crime and all this will keep the japanese economy in a good, if not ideal shape.
