Technically it is the same god, but Mohammed's take on Judaeo-Christian religion. He basically took Judaism and Christianity and changed it to form a new religion that fit his personal agenda/beliefs, and make it more compatible to ancient arabic culture.

+Arrow I think Mohammeds agenda was mainly to serve his self interests, but also to reshape arab society into what he thought was best, making it more unified and stronger (a potential power). And leave a lasting legacy through the new religion, where he would be revered by his followers. He largely succeeded.

+Arrow By self interest i mean looking out for no.1 (the self). It's just an opinion based based on what I know of Mohammed. I never said i was delivering hard facts, which is hard to do for events so long ago. As most sources from the time are biased one way or the other. To be fair to Mohammed, most men serve their self interest. But most men don't end up conquering neighbours and living the lifestyle of a successful tribal warlord, albeit with a religious twist. Before he became known as a prophet though, his self interest would have been not to fall into poverty, to grow in power and wealth/influence. As it was for most arabians of the time. He then realised the religious card was a powerful tool and that he was in a postion where he could attempt to make arabia stronger, in part by uniting the tribes.

He didn't want to be just another arab tribal leader. If he took up that offer that's how it would probably have gone down. For various reasons he desired to make a lasting legacy, and for this he needed to make a new religion with himself at the core of it. These reasons, not in any order were that he 1) wanted to be remembered and revered by forging a new religion so he doesnt go down in history as just another regular arab tribal chieftain 2) he wanted to unite the arab tribes 3) he may have actually believed it was the will of god.
