  2.  @codejunkes4607  Too much immigration does hurt host countries. They don't increase the amount of housing and hospitals and schools relative to the amount of immigrants that come in, and things end up getting worse even if the GDP continues to go up. The per capita GDP does not increase along with it.

  5. I don't think they'd sabotage their own pipe, it's too much an expensive assett. Why destroy your own infrastructure when you could just cut off the pipes by pulling a switch?

  6.  @codejunkes4607  America is a big place though with a lot of resources, both material and financial. For countries with less it is harder. I'm not saying that some immigration does not help it can in certain situations but but it often has the tendency of doing more harm than good such as put a lot of pressure on local governments and social services. Leading to it's decline and ultimately it's dismantlement in favour of a more neo-liberal and half assed welfare solution. Seeing that neo-liberal America has little in the way of social services anyway, it isn't that much of an issue for their system. But for social democracies it can hurt them and lead to their demise/dismantlement.

  7.  @jeffsterling2809  Is being against mass migration really such a far right thing though? I used to think it was a good thing back in the 90's as it would open people to other cultures and promote friendship and understanding. But the negatives it has bought have far outweighed the positives. The negatives are pressure it puts on social services and housing (it pushes up housing costs) it keeps wages low which is one of the reasons the elites who dont have to put up with the negatives support it. It creates what are effectively ghettos that become hot beds of crime and anti social behaviour. One could even argue it adds to the carbon footprint of the country, when many of these european countries would otherwise have had a stabilized or even declining population which would have created a lower carbon footprint. And trying to police the borders, process the paper work the appeals in the courts, the seaborne rescues is sapping away at any surplus wealth a country may have generated for that year, making the nation states more dependent on loans to make ends meet, which will one day hit a ceiling and contribute to a big economic crash. Most countries assume the economy will grow and make it easier to pay the debt in the future but we're reaching a change where that will no longer be the case. And the other problem is it doesn't stop, it's going to get worse because in the future some countries like sudan and others around the sahara, maybe even the arabian peninsular will be no longer conducive towards sutaining human life due to reaching temperatures of 60 celcius, and no longer having any ground water. What will happen then? It will be entire nations on the march yet there is no plan on how to deal with this coming age of catastrophe. To me far right is when you see your country as supreme over others and its ok to invade them and steal their resources. I'm against that, every country should strive to be self sufficient and look to safeguard it's future, not just deal with major crisis as they come. That's why we need to look to other solutions such as genuinely assisting these poorer countries with a development plan and development aid so that they too can be self sufficient and better placed to deal with the climate change era which is going to be really bad from 2050 onwards.

I think they are being kept in Bakhmut as long as possible while a secret Ukrainian assault army is forming and preparing to do an encirclement of the Russians, with the new western tanks in support. It's a gamble though because the encircled Ukrainians may break before that happens, and also there's no guarantee the Ukrainian attack to will work. But I think that might be part of the grander strategy and explains why they are making troops stay in the city. You can see a parallel to Stalingrad up to a point, where in one moment there was only a pocket of defenders left while the Wehrmacht got mostly sucked into the city and then surrounded.

  11.  @derbywinner6316  In Chile I was actually was trying to warn people that large scale immigration would cause these issues 5 years ago, especially given the drug war problems. But was looked upon by most Chileans as some kind of reactionary. Most now acknowledge i was right, or just avoid talking to me on the subject.

  12.  @rhubarbjin  It tends to bring much more negatives than positives for native people, especially the working class, but some immigration is good up to a point. We've far surpassed that point long ago. It's good for the immigrants themselves though, and it's good for big business as it keeps wages low and housing costs high. But not good for the poorer native people.

  13. 1:26 how exactly? I'm guessing fuel and energy is still cheap for Russia. But is there more expensive food? Or has only the cost of luxury products gone up? Or is it things like clothes/shoes etc? Have rents or mortgages been affected? It would be nice to see more detail on that.

  22.  @antoniolsls7774  They're trying to have the defence hold until it firms up. Otherwise they would have withdrawn by now. I think the Ukrainian command still feels it is capable of supplying the defenders and any encirclements are just temporary. It is a difficult city to encircle to be fair, especially if attacking from the east. As there are several towns to the west and north west that can function as bases of operations where relief forces can operate from and maintain the supply line.

Unless it's the expensive sausages, it comes from those parts. As for the Chinese not eating the meaty bits of pigs, yeah that is a bit weird. Probably has something to do with their spiritual beliefs.

C'mon we all have! :) As for Chinese, I am probably generalisng a bit here, as I dont know that much about them though I know more than the average guy on the street. From my understanding, the Chinese spiritual based beliefs are that certain parts of an animal has different properties. That probably fuels demand for certain parts. Nonetheless i I always thought the Chinese did eat all of a pig, just that a back parts flesh is not a preferred part.

  29. DW News never mentions the underlying problem though. Overpopulation which is partly down to bad infrastructure so people exploit the little nature we have left in order to make money or make a living even. With a technologically advanced infrastructure it becomes possible to sustain larger populations with dignity but such things do not come easy.

  30.  @KolaJohns8199  They (leaders of the developing world) have a lot more control over that now than in the 20th century. French Africa literally just booted the French out last year. Many developing countries choose contracts with China rather than the western world. No, imperialism isnt really the problem now except in a few cases. The main problem is corrupt leadership and a lack of compassion or sense of responsibility of the governments to aid their people. Look at how bad the corruption in South Africa is right now with the ANC for example.

  32.  @niburu1508  It's just curiosity, looking for a bit more substance over sweeping statements to help me form a clearer picture on the situation. Obviously if day to day life to the average Russian gets harder or even unbearable it's going to put more pressure on Putin domestically but if life goes on relatively the same, it's going to be harder in that regard. Personally I think the Russian economy is resilient in terms of meeting basic needs because it's largely self sufficient in raw material but that this is only going to buy them time, due to conscription and recruitment to the army, combined with the exodus of young Russian men, often highly skilled and qualified who have left for other countries. There's also the matter of having to look after all the wounded men coming home who are now disabled. Not to mention that Russia already had a demographic problem prior the war.   35.  @JayTeeDE  That depends on whether or not it has gotten tainted by a culture of corruption or not. They can also have a tendency to become self serving, which is also a low key form of corruption i.e. deliberately avoid changing a procedure that make them complete work more efficiently in less hours because they dont want to set themselves out of a comfortable job. Or deliberately underperform because they work in a system that allocates you more resources if you under perform rather than if you do well. One solution is more transparency, so that any citizen can view almost any report or data. Perhaps some kind of a website where every citizen gets a unique user log in to view these details could be a good cost effective move over time.

  38. I agree, but it's because most of them want an easy way out and also because most of them have a friend who migrated to Europe and things went well for them and now they want to do the same. (Tunisia is just a temporary stepping stone if given the chance to move further north) The more that come in, the more that will want to come.
