Haiti is badly overpopulated. If they can control this, the island could recover and go strong by repairing the lands and planting new forests. If they don't do this over the next 50-100 years it's going to be like that forever. People forget how large the population is compared to the countries size and natural resources. In a highly developed advanced society you can pull it off, but not in an underdeveloped, small and low resource country. How did the population get so big then? Due to international aid handouts, high fertility rates, lack of education and bad leadership.

@LuckyAcc-gw1ej If you can't produce enough food to feed your population and are dependent on food imports you are overpopulated. In Haiti's case they have very little arable land a population of 10 million in what is a very small country. Compare Iceland that has only about 350,000 people, it's a lot easier to feed 350,000 people than 10 million.
