  1. Japan actually did become a bit more outgoing and curious of the wider world at this time. But they then closed all contact, except for the dutch trading port. I think the Tokugawa Shogunate later realised that the outside influences could become a destabilizing influence and after Sengoku Jidai period the last thing they'd want is more civil wars.
