Unfortunately most the smart and educated Liberians were killed in the civil wars, the native Liberians saw them as some kind of colonial oppressor from America (there may have been some truth to that like 100 years ago but in the 70's/80's it was a government for all the people), and then Gaddafi gave the rebels weapons and they went on to commit the most heinous crimes.
