  1. Social programs are socialistic in nature but also rely on capitalism. The government backs schemes to improve quality of life for the poorer people, often at the expense of capitalists who have the heaviest burden through taxes. It's a partial redistrubution of wealth which is socialistic in nature if not out and out socialism. The right wingers like to call it socialism when it doesn't work but if shown an example of it working it is not socialism. The truth is that socialism is pretty broad term with varying degrees but this day and age a good social democracy can only survive it doesn't squeeze too much from capitalism.
