It's probably not going to help when applying for jobs or universities abroad either, if you went to Mao Zedong High. Though i guess it depends on the country and institution.

At least if the teachers are acting disagreebly you can riot to your hearts content and just say you were carrying out a cultural revolution 🤣

There were times that Chinese civilisation was the most sophisticated in the world. But it follows a cycle of feast and famine. The society prospered, population went up, then a famine beckoned. Famine happens and afterwards things would improve again and the cycle would repeat. But I think China has had a very advanced civilisation in the past compared to other cultures of the time. Also bear in mind the Qing dynasty was Manchurian and they were largely resented by the Han majority. I'm no expert but i get the impression that bonds of loyalty and duty were always weak between the Qing and the common people and that's why you had things like the Taiping rebellion pick up so much momentum in their big civil war of that time.

@captainheat2314 That wasn't really the reason. The government thought killing the birds would increase crop yields but instead it led to hordes of insects (as there were no longer any birds to keep their numbers in check) that would go on to eat the crops. Creating or worsening any famines.

The toughest obstacle is the 'better the devil you know' mentality most voters have. People complain but no-one wants to rock the boat by giving newer parties a chance. While the mainstream parties have been largely compromised. Not necessarily to China, but it is so in some cases. But to whoever supports their party and the politicians careers the most. Maybe looking for ways to increase transparency as much as physically possible will help.

@geofractal I think youtube may be playing around with a.i. programs that try to pick up problematic (or what it deems to be problematic) posts and censoring them. Only that it doesn't work very well and struggles to identify bad advice from good advice. I don't think it's being applied universally either but randomly as it's still a work in progress and a lot of stuff gets ignored. I also think they try to be discreet so most people don't notice it.
