  2. I think this problem of rising number of elderly on pensions and declining workers to pay national insurance/pensions is overblown. Consider the following: 1) The ageing crisis is a one off or part of a cycle over a much longer period of time. i.e. whilst having an ageing population will be costly, eventually they will die and the next generation can look forward to a much smaller amount of elderly to look after in the future. This will lead to a financial surplus that can be carried over for the next cycle, or pay towards any debts accrued from the previous cycle. 2) Having a smaller population of working age people will mitigate the effects of unemployment which in part will be brought about by robotic automation which will hit industrial countries like China especially hard. The savings from not having to deal with an army of unemployed (which could lead to unrest/revolution) could be pumped into tackling the ageing crisis. 3) National service for young people, but in social care helping the elderly as an alternative to service in the army is another way we can mitigate increasing costs. 4) If you think we need a perpetually ever growing number of workers to pay for cost of elderly, every generation, what happens when they become elderly and there are even more elderly than before. You are effectively subscribing to an unsustainable pyramid scheme which will eventually collapse to terrible effect.
