Of course there would be a sense of national pride. However, to presume that such a thing would matter outside of national pride kind of seems racist in a sense, no? It's assuming that Japanese people are not likely to win the US Open if you think about it. Personally, I have no qualms with what nationality/ethnicity an athlete is. It's the skill of the person that matters more.
