  1. I think this whole practice of Suneung (수능) is a bit extreme. Personally, I think that instead of cramming for long periods of time, it's more effective to have a kid learn through experience as well as formal education. I don't think it's necessary to do all the after school academy and tutors til like 1 AM. All of that exhaustion could make the kid mentally snap and just give up. These parents that take such extreme measures need to realize that they cannot be living through their kids. Thinking that all of these extreme measures will guaranatee a good test score and guaranteeing the kid will get into a good college is just silly. Also, even if the kid gets into a high ranking school, it'll be for nothing if the kid cannot flourish and do well while in said college. The academics and extra-curricular studying needs to be done in moderation and it needs to be done regularly. Trying to regularly shove & cram hours upon hours of brute force studying is not as efffective as letting the kid learn through experience and retain relevant information in a more organic manner. I'm glad that Jihun's parents seem reasonable and have realistic expectations. Hopefully Jihun did well and gets accepted into the college he wants to attend.
