D&G are more concerned that the people of China got offended enough that retail stores in China are not stocking and selling D&G products anymore.
They're more sorry that they didn't think this through enough for people to take offence.
It make sense that people of South Korea and Japan would possibly get offended to because of the whole chopstick thing.
To be fair, if D&G pulled out 100% of the China market, it might have a negative impact on China's economy. But as a company it wouldn't matter too much since they still have a presence in other countries around the world.
People are upset and talking about it now, but give it a few weeks to a few months and most people will forget about it or find something else to get mad about.
Honestly, if I was the owner of a big company, and wanted to do business internationally like D&G, I'd probably be more culturally aware and sensitive.
But even without being culturally aware and sensitive, it seems like a common sense thing to not make such a commercial.
Why are they trying to be edgy, hip, or modern with this style of advertisement?
They're a big enough company where they just need to have ads with celebrities in expensive clothing, jewelry, and makeup wearing or holding on to their products and doing poses, walking, etc ...generic things and that should be enough to get people excited.
Do the exact same commercial but have a different model/celebrity doing the same walking & posing in their own country and use that as the commercial for the country.
So for China, they should've gotten a Chinese model/actor/actress to pose and walk around with the D&G products in like Shanghai or other major Chinese cities. Have some typical music in the background, people taking pictures and being wow'ed... Simple.
