  1. It definitely is a racist gesture; kind of along the lines how non-Asian individuals often assume an Asian person is Chinese. For example, a lot of Spanish speaking individuals will generalize Asian people as "Chino" ... as in the Spanish word for a Chinese person. These kinds of things is racist but it could also just be that some people are ignorant and uneducated so they go with stereotypes. But that doesn't excuse them for making just gesture or saying certain comments.

  2. @sergiodmartos “American” is a nationality; not an ethnicity. So Koreans being assumed as being Chinese by ignorant, uneducated people is racist to a degree.
