I learned that it was the other way around - slavic folks are by name older than the use of the word slave (sklavenoi, greek) for servant. But these indoeuropean folks were forced into slavery a lot and it became a synonyme.

@philiprowney I indeed learned that the slavic folks are older than the use of the term slave for servant. Before it had become usual to force the slavic folks into slavery, roman word was servus, norse thrall. And the roman latin sclavus took the word from the greek sklavenoi. Slavery was widely accepted but the property had to be of different cultural origin. So slavic folks were extremely popular slaves since they were 'cultural strangers' to many european powers, mostly simple-minded peasants, often living & moving in 'smaller' groups without greater defense systems/ no army /no weapons, and were of quite peaceseeking, submissive nature.
