So I have a question for the modern age, despite the high lethality of modern warfare, casualties seem pretty light in comparison to…what you’d expect from precision weapons and determined infantry attacks being mixed together, I used to just attribute this to the lower intensity combat that has been conducted for the last 30 years but that still doesn’t cut it, and doesn’t at all explain the current war.

Well the goal is clearly to stop at all costs ukraine from joining nato (because Russia is scared of a defensive alliance, for obvious reasons) which would massive expand the border length with nato This war was expected to not even be a war, more like the Anschluss in 1938 Why did they think the west would sit it out? Well for two very obvious reasons which may ruffle some political feathers, one is in 2014 that’s exactly what happened, two and more importantly, leftist politicians have power in most western countries and they’re notoriously bad at foreign policy, just look at the Merkel chancellorship or the Obama administration
