The question isn’t “were they useful” because of course they were the question was were they necessary? The Soviet Union was fighting for its very existence when the Nazis came knocking, so the debate goes “was lend lease something that wasn’t fully necessary to win or was it something needed to win?”

Exactly my thoughts, what procurement for replacing food would they have used? The Ukrainian farmland (ie one of the two breadbaskets of the world) was overrun before the fall, there would be no food production, not on the scale an army of 5-7 million needs alongside the population who by the way are working in the Urals
