I always say the best historical chance for the Germans was to hold off on that lebensraum thing until after they win the war, I’ll never understand why they didn’t

Arthur Kimes not necessarily, you think a racist regime would mind using the people they’re racist against as a meatshield against their enemies?

The capture of Moscow is a significant strategic loss, IF the army groupe center can hold it, assuming they could they’ll still have themselves quite the overextended line for their logistics, and the Red Air Force was still recovering and I see no reason why it wouldn’t finish recovering even if Moscow was lost unless there’s some major aircraft production there that I don’t know about, I don’t think the Germans could’ve held Moscow until the summer, when the supply trains could more easily reach them, coupled with the Siberian forces coming in it doesn’t look to good from my view, and the Russians certainly wouldn’t capitulate at the loss of Moscow

Julian Cate well I was going off the alternate timeline scenarios suggested in the OP, which I would assume wouldn’t lead to the plan swap to encircling Moscow Regardless you’re not wrong just about all of it is conjecture, but my main thing is I’m not sure AGC could hold Moscow which is the more problematic situation they’ll find themselves in after the significant losses it would take to capture it, just judging by previous engagements like Minsk and Smolensk And it’s not that the Soviets would wait until summer 42 it’s that the Germans in order to solidify their position they’d need to hold until summer 42 so the supply trains (not locomotives but the general flow) could be increased enough to solidify their position And finally i didn’t read any of the replies just the original comment, so idk what could’ve or was said there

Julian Cate no it’s a theory that in the alternate early timeline they wouldn’t but in fairness the battle for Moscow isn’t exactly something I know too much about compared to other stuff
