A couple of ways First is the technology capability, tech superiority affects survivability, a SAM system using 2010s tech will be more capable of not just tracking but downing planes than a 2000s or older tech Another is weaponry, Russian fighter planes on this channel get kneecapped in assessment as they lack modern air to air weapons compared to say US or China, using modern air to air missiles and lots of them In ground attack, itā€™s mostly about precision and stand-off capability For ships, weapon range and defenses are the things to look at, if you can shoot further, the enemy ship is mostly toast For tanks, ammunition and technology is the name of the game, the leopard 2, T-14, M1 alphabet soup Abrams, ZTZ-99A, etc have strong weapons and great sensors, ammunition, communications, and such. Age doesnā€™t matter too much for some things like tanks, but technology gap will sometimes remove half or even most of the chance for a hit, say for a SAM vs a plane
