In fairness looking at the Luftwaffe in the outbreak of the war it’s hard to argue they weren’t the strongest Air Force in the world, their air superiority would be unchallenged everywhere except for the British isles until mid to late 1942, their overconfidence is more a statement of hindsight i say, knowing what happens next
