The first incident of Zionism was the Exodus from Egypt. While non Jews can identify with Zionism, it will always remain a Jewish concept.

It reminds me of the Diary of Anna Frank. Otto Frank was convinced by Lillian Helman to universalize the diary ie: make it less Jewish. That's how it was for years. The Diary of Anna Frank was a story of a Jewish girl and that it is how it should have been presented from the beginning.
