  3. Is there any particular reason why the USA has so many viscous fans and not electric ones. All my cars here in Australia have had electric ones.

  4. I like your methodology of analysing what exactly is wrong. We fix our own cars at work wherever possible (we are an electronics company) and use similar techniques that you do. One of th guys we know got us to look at his nieces VW Polo and when we connected up the scan tool it would not work. We check the fuse for continuity and that was ok. After some umming and ahing we did a voltage check across the fuse. It had 12v going in but only 9V coming out. We replaced the fuse and the scanner worked and we could then find out what exactly was wrong with the car. We now do voltage checks across fuses instead of a plain continuity check.
