  1. I am Australian - can you please explain why you need to be registered or is it voluntary. It is a totally foreign concept to me.

  2.  @Kim-dm4yb Thanks for that. Australian elections are quite different. We register to vote but don't register any affiliation and we don't have anything like a primary. Local branches of the parties select the candidates usually but sometimes head office will. We also don't vote for a PM we vote candidates in and the one with the greatest number elect the PM. Their choice is known before the election though. In the current scenario at the next election Mr Albanese and Mr Dutton will be the two likely candidates. It does annoy me that the federal government gets called the Albanese Government when it isn't - it is the Labor Party Government.
